Nihongo Web Tutorial Procedure
Tutoring hours are both scheduled for the semester and open (first come, first served). You can contact us for just practice (no points assigned) or to do a graded Oral Quiz (see your Lesson Plan). We are currently using Skype, and even if you are local you must use the web conference system. The telephone is only used when the computer IM systems crash, or in the case of power outtages. Check the syllabus in Blackboard Learn (linked on the Course Content page) for the usernames and add us to your contacts! Tutoring may be cancelled during UA emergencies such as severe weather. If your tutor misses your scheduled session due to illness or other emergency, he or she will email you to make it up. If YOU miss your scheduled session and have a doctor's note or other verifiable excuse, we will let you make the session up as soon as you can. Otherwise you will need to try and get online during an open session to make up your practice or quiz. The Oral Quiz is a mandatory test grade unless you are auditing the course, and cannot be taken past the deadline in the Lesson Plan without an excuse.

Japanese 101 students will do the first graded oral quiz after completing Nakama 1 Chapter 2 (but you can contact us any time during tutoring hours to ask questions or to practice).

Japanese 102 students will do the first graded oral quiz after completing Nakama 1 Chapter 7 (but you can contact us any time during tutoring hours to ask questions or to practice).

Japanese 201 students will do the first graded oral quiz after completing Nakama 2 Chapter 1 (but you can contact us any time during tutoring hours to ask questions or to practice).

Japanese 202 students will do the first graded oral quiz after completing Nakama 2 Chapter 6 (but you can contact us any time during tutoring hours to ask questions or to practice).

TUTORING HOURS ARE IN CENTRAL U.S. TIME ZONE! (same as Chicago)

What time is it in Alabama now?

Tutoring is not available during weekends or UA holidays. Sessions should last between 20 and 30 minutes each. Tutoring hours close 15 minutes before the end of the period. Our tutors do speak English, but some are not comfortable giving detailed grammar explanations. Please email Laurie Arizumi instead.

The tutoring schedule will be emailed to you at the beginning of each semester as soon as we receive everyone's schedules.
